Lloyd loom returns

The newly covered Lloyd loom linen basket, thank you Mum!!! She very kindly worked her wonders on it and turned it into a pretty little piece.

Lushious Lloyd Loom

This is my purchase of the week. I found this linen basket down the back streets in a tired little shop, one where you know you will discover a gem and also pick up a bargain. The man in the shop saw me admiring the basket and said "open it up, there is a treat in there for you love".

He was quite right too!! As excited as I am by my buy this one is not a keeper, I am going to recover and sell on. The floral fabric is fine but I have some perfect material to give this Lloyd loom a lift!

Cowboys from Cath

Look at this beauty!! The girls and I all clubbed together to buy a gift for our oh so pregnant friend (she doesn't do blogging so I am safe to share this with you) and we decided Cath was the lady to turn to for help. I love it!!!

She is convinced she is having a little boy so its just perfect. Cath Kidston's shop is down the lanes in a little old building and of course its beautiful but luckily for my purse I couldn't get round the shop with the pram!!

Over the past couple of weeks I feel like I have done a lot but just not actually got anywhere!! Maybe it is my lack of photography so I feel I haven't got alot to show you.

I did pay a visit to a few of the open houses in Worthing and I have to say 'The Lavender House' was my favourite. The house was beautiful and all the work exquisite but my visit was short, (thanks to the little man on one arm!) and I didn't manage to get any pics but I was very glad to have had a little look.
I have also managed to make a few lavender bags which I have been meaning to do for a long time, now all I have to do is sell them!

Last Wednesday I went to the Antiques market in Ardingly, I was in paradise! Stall after stall of lace, buttons, vintage fabrics, just everything and anything old and everything I love. I could of spent ten years there!

I didn't come away with much a tall although I did purchase this beautiful French fabric from a really lovely stall. They had piles of French fabrics and linens and some they had put in ornate painted frames, I thought how simple yet so effective!

Just one more of my exciting buys recently was this sewing basket from the Car Boot sale. It had a label on it saying £3 for basket and contents. I didn't care too much for the basket but when I saw the cluster of tiny black buttons which I would have paid more than £3 for alone, I snapped them all up and went off home to have a better rummage!!

Sunday 12 July 2009

Yesterday was badge day for our Oz, he received his starfish number three! What a clever little swimmer. He had to do all sorts of exciting activities, such as sploshing into the water whilst singing three little ducks, going underwater, and doing lots of splashing and singing.
Very demanding stuff indeed!

Whilst at swimming, which takes place in a very nice house in Worthing, I picked up a leaflet for the open houses. I must confess I didn't even know Worthing took part in this, and having missed all the Brighton houses this year and only making it to one in Shoreham, I was very pleased. Also there are quite a few textile designers to visit, so I was even more pleased. Well then, that's next weekend sorted!!

When we woke this morning the weather was wet and grey, but come 8 o'clock the sun started shining so Oscar and I popped out for a stroll. It was so quiet everywhere, and I love it when its like that. There were a few kite surfers, a man and his dog, and a man who looked like he was walking on water. I tried to get him in the picture but didn't capture that well at all!
Well that's what it looked like but I do keep seeing this, and it always makes me laugh. I can't see what they are standing on but they have a big paddle with them. The other day on the way to Worthing there were about ten people walking on water!!

Oscar fell asleep on our walk, which is always nice as then we don't have that fighting the sleep thing. So when we got home, after quietly creeping in, I took some pictures of my latest purchases. Car Boot ones of course!
When I saw this tin bath I had to get it as ever since watching 'Kirstie's Homemade Home' on channel 4, I have been on the look out. I loved that programme, but Kirstie had a tin bath and planted a mini herb garden in it. I thought what a superb idea, so that is now my next project.
I also found these delightful cups at the Car Boot sale. As the little man was still sleeping, I made a cuppa in one and found my latest untouched magazine. One comfy chair later and that was me in the land of bliss for the next half an hour!

Finders keepers...

Woke up bright and early on Saturday morning, well as we do everyday as Oscar, our very own little alarm clock decides that's how it is. But today I thought I'm actually going to leave the house bright and early too and have a little look at the local car boot sale on the green.

Oscar and I had a good nose around all the stalls and I did manage to find a few nice little bits. And I felt content when on the final row a lovely lady had some old buttons for me and also a whole range of brand new brightly coloured buckets and spades for Oz. So we left the car boot feeling happy with our purchases. In fact Oscar was fast asleep but I felt happier knowing I had also got him something!

As it was such a beautiful day we decided to walk home along the beach and I can't describe how thrilled I am that we did, as this is where I found this little gem of a chair. Just sitting amongst some other bits and bobs outside a house, with a sign saying 'please help yourself'. That was it, I sat straight on that chair and thought its actually quite comfy and rang my husband, who is a man who has a van, so super handy for these situations!

It is in need of some love and attention but my lovely mum is an upholsterer so I shall have to speak very kindly to her . (Hi Mum) I couldn't wait to tell her about my find and once I began stripping the chair and discovered it had an iron frame work back, she seemed very impressed and said it is more than likely an original early Victorian chair.

Now I am on the search for that perfect fabric and I shall keep you posted on the progress of the makeover. Thanks for stopping by.

This was one of my purchases. Only £1, I can't decide whether to paint it or leave it gold?

Buttons Galore

As long as I can remember my Mum has had her much loved collection of buttons. She keeps them in a small set of draws , with a different draw for each colour. I must say I have always loved her collection and remember having a little peek at them all now and again.

Well, since I have been making cushions and lavender bags, Mum decided I could put them to good use, so very kindly she has passed all her beautiful buttons onto me. I was pleased as punch, lucky lucky me!!!

My only problem is I love each and every one , I'm not sure if I can part with them, oh dear!

I'm very chuffed indeed, went out onto the balcony this morning and my sweetpeas now have just one pretty pink flower!!!! I really didn't hold out much hope as they had turned a little yellow and looked like they had been cooked by the sun.
That has made my day maybe even my week..... To many I know this seems a little achievement but plants and I do not have a very good relationship and this is also not helped by having a south facing balcony by the sea.
So that has given me hope now for lots of flowers, maybe even enough to put in a pretty pot! I'm going to see if it smells as divine as I remember.

I am super nervous but sooooooo excited, that I am about to enter the world of BLOGGING!!!!

I'm not really a computer girl and had no idea about blogs, but I was inspired by two ladies that I read about in a home magazine. They had pictures of their pretty china, and cake stands and were talking about a fair they were arranging. I looked at their blogs and that was it, I was immediately inspired to create my own.

I had no idea there was this creative hive in the land of blogging. Its brilliant and now I just want to be a part of it! So I hope you will stop by and have a little read now and again.

Thank you for visiting, and I hope to see you here again soon!

Katie.
